05 Sep Skin Glowing Smoothie
This Skin Glowing Smoothie is fruity and oaty, a perfect drink for breakfast.
The lucuma powder tastes like a mix of maple syrup and pumpkin to me, if you’re into this flavour feel free to add more than the recipe calls for. Lucuma is one of my favourite super foods because it’s so versatile, it can be baked into desserts, added to a smoothie, or used in a salad dressing. It helps strengthen teeth, decrease risk of anemia, slows aging, increases alertness, and more. Lucuma is high in iron, zinc, vitamin B3, calcium, and protein. Whereas Camu Camu is high in Vitamin C. Lucuma and Camu Camu both contain antioxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and help to repair cells, tissues, and organs.
The flaxseed, whole oats, and green banana are all prebiotic foods. Prebiotics are a type of fibre that help feed the probiotics (the gut bacteria) in the large intestine. Feeding your gut bacteria makes a world of a difference! The gut microbiome influences digestion, immune system, metabolism, and hormones. This means your skin, mood, state of health, and even body weight are the way they are due to the state of the bacteria in your intestines.
